Chicken and Noodles

Things have been hectic around here lately, and I have not had time to do the regular grocery shopping. I found it necessary to send my better half to the store. He did have a list, but when there is a good deal to be had, my husband likes to take advantage. Chicken was on sale.

Usually this would not pose a problem, but someone had inadvertently left my freezer door open the previous week and everything in it had to be tossed out. So it was empty. Until the chicken arrived.

Some people say they could eat chicken every day. No one at my house seemed to mind a bit. I did change it up, making different dishes. You can do a lot with chicken. Not a single complaint was heard, and whatever I prepared disappeared with regularity.

One day I put a bowl of chicken and noodles in front of my son. After he had taken a few bites I asked, “How is it?”

He stirred it around with his spoon and answered, “Tastes like chicken.”

Calculations

My second son is a student at the local university. Like most young men his age, he has often shown a lack of understanding in the area of money management. Things got tight for him recently when financial aid dried up.

"Mom," he announced, "I looked at my bank balance and did some calculations." He sighed, "I'll have to get a job before I can buy a new camera."

Guess that college education is paying off.

Dusty

One day, Baby Girl and I were having a fun time combing and curling, trying out various hair styles.

I struck a pose and asked her, "How does my hair look?"

She twisted her little mouth to one side and studied my new 'do'. "Well," she said, "it's a little dusty."

I examined my reflection in the mirror and realized that my locks did, indeed, appear to have a dusting of silver.

The silver-haired head is a crown of glory,

Night Hazards

When my oldest took Driver's Ed, he was asked to list five hazards of night driving. His response of "black cows in the road" pegged him as a true country boy. While to most folks, black cows don't seem all that dangerous, if you have ever had to drive on pitch dark roads in cattle land you might agree with his answer.

Know the country you are in and you can more easily identify the dangers ahead.

The rich and poor have this in common:
The Lord made them both.
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Everybody Gets a Gift

A stack of wrapped Christmas packages sat on the kitchen table amongst scraps of brightly colored paper and snips of gold ribbon.

Baby Girl smiled. Her tone had a certain air of satisfaction when she said, "I like Christmas better than my birthday because everyone gets a present."

How wonderfully true that is. All we have to do is claim it.

Beauty Tip

I waited for my turn in the bathroom. A young lady, not quite old enough for make-up yet, gazed into the mirror and patted her blonde coif. After she dug a tube of glitter gloss out of a darling little Hello Kitty purse, she proceeded to apply a shine to her mouth. She smacked her lips together a few times and said, "Always use a mirror when you put on lip gloss." Her reflected image arched a brow at me, "Or people might ask you why your chin is greasy."

Full Plate

Spaghetti is favorite at our house. I ladled up a generous plateful, added plenty of vegetables, then passed it to my teen cub.

"I think I put too much on your plate, son," I said.

He shook his head. "Nah," he said, eyeing the mound of food, "You can never put too much on my plate!"

He did manage to tuck in the entire meal with no problem. No way would I have been able to tackle that amount of food. In fact, I was not able to finish the smaller portions on my own plate.

Even when I reduce, I sometimes tend to over estimate the amount I can handle.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
